When the Bus Broke Down on Wednesday the 7th
Cody was happily hopping down the sidewalk towards his house. The bus had broke down just nearby so it was easier for him to walk home than to wait for a new bus. Suddenly a man jumped in front of him. The man or guy (He was fairly young) was short, with red hair and a mustache. He walked straight and carried a small bag with him.
"Cody! Long time no see!" The man hollered waving a hand.
"Wo, wait a minute! Who are you? You’re not my grandpa are you? I had a dream about a guy who pretended to be Jake’s grandpa then he ended up firing a gun around the place."
"Grandpa? Do I look like a grandpa to you? Cody, I’m your Scottish cousin, Alberto! Don’t you remember me?""Mr., You’re not my cousin, my cousin looks nothing like you. If you don’t mind, I have to get home or I’ll be in big trouble. The house might be empty."
"Cody, You don’t have to worry, you mom told me to be here and greet you. I was just going to go for a walk when I found you!"
"I don’t believe you."
"You have perfect reason not to. I wouldn’t expect you to just follow a stranger and do what ever he tells you just because he says he’s you cousin."
"Oh ya, then why don’t you have a Scottish accent?"
"Accent? That’s because I don’t live in Scotland anymore, I live in California. I’ve lived there for quite a while."
"Look, I think I’ll just go home and hope my mom is still there, okay?"
"Fine, but know one will be there." Said the man smiling. Cody walked the rest to the way to the house. Not a creature was stirring, not even an elephant. You know, I had a dream once, where I had this elephant in my house, and it was trying to break into the basement to use some secret toilet that we kept there. It was weird.
"See, know one here. So, do you believe me?"
"Well, I guess."
"Good! Now, just to let you know, your mom dad, and sister aren’t going to be home until very late at night, they’re are all going to an Italian restaurant. I here, they take forever to serve you. Anyway, how ‘bout we go to the Buckingham fountain in Chicago together?"
"Well okay, Can I bring Miguel with me?"
"Miguel? What about ummm...well Jake?"
"Nah, Jake doesn’t even know that two plus two equals fish. Miguel would be a better choice. Is that Okay?"
"Well, I... okay I guess."
"Great!" Cody ran to the phone and dialed Miguel’s number.
"Miguel, want to go to the Buckingham fountain with me and my cousin?"
"Your cousin? Is he long lost?""I don’t think so, but I’ve never seen him before. My mom told him to watch me, while she went to an Italian restaurant for the night."
"He, he, he! Cody, your brain is a pile of mush! How can you believe such a thing?"
"It’s the truth!"
"I’m not coming, ask Jake, I’m sure he’d be glad for Nick to write another story about you and him. I’m not going to get involved and loose my memory."
"Fine, but your missing out." Said Cody hanging up and redialing Jake’s number. He could’ve sworn he heard his cousin let out a breath of relief as he punched in the numbers.
"Hi Jake! Want to go to the Buckingham fountain in Chicago with me and my cousin Alberto?"
" You have a cousin Alberto?’
"Ya, I didn’t know until just right now though."
"Okay! Sure! I have nothing to do anyway!" Jake exclaimed hanging up.
Nothing bad was going to happen, thought Cody. Alberto looked nothing like the guy in his dream. There would be absolutely nothing for Nick to write about. Happily, he went to put his shoes on. Cody would just have to remember to not ask Jake if he wanted to buy a muffin, or a potato, or some asparagus. Nick always asked him those questions. Jake got so mad once, that he said ‘boogly, Boogly, BOOGLY!’ at him. Knowing that Miguel claims to be smarter than Cody is, it is not a surprise that he refused to go to the fountain with Cody. After what happened last time and the time before that, I can conclude that going with Alberto was a big mistake on Cody’s part. When you have a dream, you tend to forget parts of it once you wake up. You forget unimportant details. Since Cody believes going to the nature preserve to be a dream, perhaps he forgot the appearance and name of the driver who took them to the Preserve with none other than grandpa Hettito. Oh well, What’s done is done and there’s nothing anyone can do about it.
Alberto picked up Jake by his house and started on the express way. It was a long drive, longer than the one to the Nature preserve or the Amish farm. Maybe not the Amish farm. Cody wasn’t sure. His head was hurting. He had walked into a building yesterday. He literally walked directly into the side. Cody had a large bump on his forehead. It was almost gone now though. During the Drive, Alberto made a couple calls on one of them. The first one, Cody kind of overheard although he missed some parts. He recognized the word Hetty a couple times. Hetty thought Cody. Where have I heard that name before? Maybe t just sounded familiar because it was similar to Hettito, the guy from his dream. Finally the car came to a stop near a Giant fountain.
"Wow! Where’s the water?" asked Jake
‘The water? Are you crazy? Did you actually think it was running? No way, it’s shut down during the winter."
"Then why did you bring us here?" Asked Cody.
‘Why, well I thought it would be neat seeing it without water.’
"That’s dumb."
‘Dumb? Well that’s only your opinion. Go over there and sit on that bench. I’ve got to talk to a friend I’m supposed to meet here. Have fun!" The man said as he walked away. Jake looked around. The place was pretty deserted except for one guy selling hotdogs in the side of the clearing.
"This is boring, Cody. Why did you drag from my house just to see a shut down Fountain? Sitting around in my house picking, my nose is more fun than this."
"You pick your nose?" Said Cody. Jake banged his hand onto his head. I wonder shy he always does that. Maybe his brain sleeps on the Job sometimes and he forgets that he’s not supposed to hit himself. That’s probably the answer. It’s very logical.
"Be quiet, I’m going to ask your cousin to take me home." Jake said walking around to the other side of the fountain. HE peeked over the side. Cody’s so-called cousin was talking to a tall, thin, man, with gray hair and a white beard. He carried a cane and had big veins on his hands.
"Cody! Get over here! The man from our dream is talking and discussing something with your cousin."
"What?" Cody looked over by the fountain.
‘Come on, let’s get out of here. Having the same dream is a coincidence. Seeing the man that was in both of your dreams is not. Something is wrong here. Let’s go!" Cody and Jake both started to run toward the street, which was a fair distance away.
"Okay, Albert, you can go. But remember, get the kids into my car and get them tied. Is that clear?"
"Ye--. Hetty! They’re escaping!!"
"What do you think I’m going to do when you say that Albert? Give you a candy cane? STOP THEM!!" Albert took off after the two boys.
"Run Cody! Run, he’s chasing us!"
"I"M trying!" However, Cody and Jake were not nearly fast enough to outrun Albert or Alberto whatever you want to call him. Wow! That’s another incident, which supports one of Miguel’s theories about Cody. He once said that Cody was a weak little person. Maybe Miguel is smarter than I thought. They soon ended up in a wrestling match right there in the grass. Hetty looked at the jumble and took out a gun from under his coat. He cocked it.
"Freeze! All of you!" Screamed Hetty. He fired two shots, but luckily, none of them hit anybody because right at that moment the Hotdog seller lunged at Hetty’s arm.
"You fool! Get off me!" He screamed, throwing the guy off. His gun swung around towards the hotdog seller.
"You’ll die too!" His finger tightened on the trigger.
"Ah, Ah, Ah Hetty!" Said the baker...err...seller, smiling. He swung a gun out from under his apron.
"What thuh? Jeez!!" Hetty swung out of the way behind the fountain as the hotdog seller fired a shot. The hotdog seller hid behind his hotdog cart and fired to more.
"Bang, Bang!"
"Bang!" Pots shattered and hotdogs flew through the sky as the little cart exploded. Hearing the shots, Albert/Alberto, loosened his grip on Cody. Cody pulled himself free.
"Come on Jake! Let’s get out of here!" He hollered looking backward towards Albert/Alberto. Unfortunately, he wasn’t looking forward, where he was going. He slipped on a cheeseburger that had came out of the cart and fell right into the bucking ham fountain. The last thing he saw was a green serpent monster statue sitting fight outside the fountain.
Cody woke up in his bed. He had not got hit anywhere and wasn’t even wounded. The same results happened with Jake, though Jake didn’t fall into the fountain. He ended up running into an oak tree and knocking himself out that way. I’m sorry to say that the fear and trauma of the incident and the realization that the dream was not a dream was two much for Jake and Cody, they both have convinced themselves nothing strange has happened. A physiatrist told both their parents not to mention the event to them because it might throw them in a fit. With the hotdog man, well, he was really an under cover cop. After Cody asked Miguel to go with him to the Fountain with his unknown Cousin, Miguel informed the Police That he had been kidnapped by a murderer and was being to taken tot he Buckingham fountain. The police then sent an under cover cop to keep an eye on the fountain. I guess, Miguel was partially right, because it is no doubt that Albert/Alberto is not Cody’s cousin and Hetty I guess you could classify as a murderer even though he has not yet succeeded in killing someone. He has tried many times though. More Policemen arrived shortly after Cody got knocked out but, Hetty and Albert/Alberto Had already jumped into Albert’s/Alberto’s blue car and sped off. The police found nothing that could suggest where they vanished to.
P.S. This document has yet again been written by Nicholas Makara. These facts have been reported to me by actual witnesses of what happened.
